Very good kettle with a few minor niggles, 6 Jan 2009

This kettle is sold as an “energy efficient kettle” on the basis that you can boil exactly the amount of water you need – the see-through panels in the side are clearly marked with a scale in cups, from 1 to 6 (1.7 litres). The kettle is made of white polypropylene, with grey trim on the lid and base, which should help it to stay clean. The plastic construction means that it is light and doesn’t get hot as metal kettles do. I like its shape which is quite low and dumpy – compared to some other jug kettles – making it less of a hazard on the kitchen worktop.

It pours satisfactorily from its wide spout, which also allows you to fill it through the spout- although it would take quite a long time to completely fill it this way. The lid of the kettle also opens for filling but I found the catch very stiff and awkward – whether this is a safety measure or it will ease with use I don’t know. The kettle features automatic shut-off, boil-dry protection and a 360-degree base but I found it a bit noisier than I was expecting for a modern kettle. Despite these few niggles I’m pleased with the kettle which I think is good to look at and well priced.
